What We Do

COACHING

sailing-coach.jpg

We offer coaching from both onboard your boat or from a coach boat. Sailing as part of your crew is the ideal way to learn your set up and help you make improvements. If you and your team have a specific event in mind we can help design practices to get you ready and can assist during events to maximize your performance.

A typical 3-day coaching session leading up to an event might look like this:

  • 3-4 Weeks prior to event-discuss specific goals, strengths and weaknesses with team. Develop plans for training session that focuses on achievable and measurable results.

  • 1 Week prior-reaffirm training goals and make specific plans for session.

  • Day before-Check all equipment in place, boats, sails ready to go. Review weather for next day, pre-brief meeting time and dock out time.

  • 1st day morning- pre-brief, review plan of day, goals for day, review any drills with all personnel. Ensure radio comms are set.

  • 1st day after docking-debrief. Quick review of what was accomplished with eye to what to work on for tomorrow.

  • 2nd day pre-brief—Longer than day 1. Review video and photos of sails and set ups. Review plan of day.

  • 2nd Day debrief—Review day from coach boat and onboard race boats. Quick review of pertinent video and photos

  • 3rd Day pre-brief-in depth review of photos and video and review of action items learned for drills. This day should either be an actual race day or we will organize practice racing.

INDEPENDANT SAIL EVALUATION

Chris and The Favored End are not associated with any sailmaker. With 35+ years in sailmaking business Chris can come onboard and help you and your team objectively evaluate your sail inventory with an eye to maximizing performance and value in concert with your goals. Periodically photographing and measuring the shape of each sail in your inventory is a the only way to make smart sail buying decisions.

Chris will work with you to set up a session or sessions to properly set up your rig and photograph all sails in question. He will then present you with a report on each sail including sail shape measurements of each. By gaining an good picture of your overall inventory you and Chris can make a plan about which sails need to replaced do not or can be recut to improve performance. Chris is familiar with many of the sailmakers across the country and will be more than happy to help you work with your sailmaker of choice.

CLINICS

A daylong or weekend clinic for your club group or one design fleet is a great way to build enthusiasm, excitement and participation. We are familiar with most one design classes; how to tune them and how to sail them. Once dates are selected we will take care of the on land and water organization.

NEW BOAT OWNER TRAINING

At the Favored End our goal is to get more people out on the water. Nothing can be more daunting or stressful than taking a new (or new to you) boat away from the dock and not knowing fully how it handles and being confident in your ability. We can help you with learning the right way to dock and undock, anchor, reef sails, set downwind sails and have fun—not stress on the water.

Chris holds a UCSG 25 Ton Master License with Sailing Endorsement and carries full liability insurance so both you and your insurance company will be happy!

We also do powerboats!

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

Organizing a racing campaign of any size is time consuming and daunting. We can help you from planning your build up, organizing the team and their positions onboard and more. We can even help with logistics right down to organizing boat transport, lodging and the like so that you can focus on prepping and racing.
